BUT WORSE WILL COME by C.C. Adams is one of the pleasant surprises of 2018. Adams churns out a great tale with authentic, three-dimensional characters. There’s also one helluva monster that doesn’t get the recognition it deserves–a truly kickass and terrifying monster indeed.
C.C. Adams writes powerful prose that brings the story to life. Scenes jump from the page. The foreshadowing is incredible. The atmospheric dread covers the pages like a mist. As you’re reading BUT WORSE WILL COME, you never know what might be lurking in the next page.
Theodore Papakostas is living a seemingly normal life. All this changes when something from his past catches up to him. Something forgotten. Their paths crossed once before, many years ago. The monster is not on his heels. He does his best to outrun the monster, but will it be enough to survive? After all, the monster spared his life the first time around.
C.C. Adams writes lyrical prose, making BUT WORSE WILL COME unputdownable. The edge of your seat tension grips you from the get go. The setup and execution is spot on. The characters makes for a good time. the main character is realistic and dynamic. The dialogue is solid. You know you’re in the hands of a great writer when the world fades away and you fall into the story.
This is my first time reading C.C. Adams, but it won’t be my last. I really dig this one and I think you will, too.
