Interview With Toni (The Misadventures of a Reader)

CHHR: Please give a brief introduction.
Hi! I’m Toni. I live in hell otherwise known as AZ. I own and operate the blog: The Misadventures of a Reader. I am also the acquisitions editor for Black Spot Books and a managing partner in Squid and Ink Authors Services.  OHHHHH and I work full time for the man as well.
CHHR: When did you start reviewing horror books?

I review a wide range of books. But I started seriously reviewing about 6 months ago.  But I am a horror fan first and foremost.
CHHR:  What social media platform(s) do you prefer? Why?

I primarily use twitter and Instagram on a daily basis. I use wordpress for blog posts which I post about 3 or 4 times a week.

CHHR:  Do you like print or eBooks? Or both?
I do prefer print books. I enjoy the tactile feel of holding books and turning the pages. I have recently changed my review policy, so I only review print books. I like to make notes in the book that I can refer to when I am writing up my review.
CHHR: What does your ideal reading space look like?
Basically, a library behind a secret door. With a fireplace, a bog old comfy chair and a desk. Where I can hide from the world.
CHHR:  What advice would you give your fellow horror book
reviewers?
I find that horror is such an underrated genre we all need to be ambassadors for the genre. I am one of the only horror reviews in my group of bookish friends. I think that we need to help spread word about horror and the many genres that encompasses.
CHHR: Do you dog ear or bookmark?
That is a very personal question don’t ya think ;) Most of my bookish friends think I am an absolute monster because I do dog ear my books and I also write in them. I think of books as small windows in time.
CHHR: What is your favorite horror book? Why?
I have a hard time with this question. I have two that absolutely love.  The first being Cujo and the second being Pet Semetary.  Cujo makes me so sad….there is a lot going on in that book. There is family dynamic issues and the dog it just adds all together to make a great story. Pet Semetary makes me sad in only away a story about loss can. The lengths that people would go to amazes me.
CHHR: What is your least favorite horror book? Why?
My least favorite horror book is Sleeping Beauties by Stephen and Owen King. First, I don’t think that it is really a horror book. But I didn’t really like the Concept and the premise of the story. It was a COMPLETE miss for me.
CHHR: What is one thing that bothers you about your site?
CHHR: How do you keep up with the books you read?
Good ole pen and paper. I have notebooks and calendars with the books names and release dates written down. I know some people who are awesome at keeping track of everything electronically.
                CHHR: Do you use Goodreads?
I don’t use Goodreads. I have found that there is too many shannigans on Goodreads. Just not my gig.
CHHR: How do you feel about Amazon cracking down on
                reviews?
Shhhh don’t tell I don’t post my reviews on Amazon….I know I
know!!
CHHR: What makes a great horror book?
In my humble opinion, it is the writing. You can have the makings of a great horror story but if it isn’t executed right then you are kind of screwed. A good writer can take something as mundane as a toaster and make it scary!
CHHR: Who is your favorite horror author?
I can’t pick. There are too many amazing authors out there.
