Homicide detective Jake Carrington takes murder personally…
This book is the first in a mystery/thriller series. It is also a police procedural type read. The premise caught my attention because the detective wants to solve a lady’s murder, yet his sister’s murderer is up for parole. So, there are several things going on, which I think makes the story better. With this added layer of tension, we are plunged into the case headlong with Jake Carrington.
The author does a great job of keeping the tension nice and tight throughout the story. The twists and turns along the way will keep you on the edge of your seat as you turn the page. I tried guessing the outcome a few times but I guessed incorrectly each time.
The author makes you feel like you’re right there with the detective, trying to solve the case. I liked the characters and the dialogue. I thought the story was solid. I thought the setup and execution was spot on. There were some slow spots in places, but not too many.
Overall, I’m glad I read it. I look forward to the next one in this series.
