THE DETAINED is ruthless. Kristopher Triana delivers a nail-biter. I didn’t know what to expect going into this book because this is my first time reading Kristopher Triana’s work. It blew my expectations out of the water. There’s not a dull moment in these pages.
Kristopher Triana starts off by introducing the main characters and why they’ve returned to their old high school. Phoebe McBride and three of her classmates show up at the school, along with their old P.E. teacher. As the book progresses, the past comes creeping back.
The characters are very likable. Phoebe is a great lead character. She makes you feel something. The characters are your typical high school classmates. The dialogue felt real, almost unpredictable. The characters’ actions are unforeseeable. Triana had me guessing throughout the latter half of the book.
The tension builds from the start. You can cut the dread with a knife. I like how Triana gives each character a little bit of background, which enhances the story without slowing it down. THE DETAINED is a quick and enjoyable escape. The ending caught me off guard, though. I didn’t like the ending, but I didn’t hate it either. Overall, THE DETAINED is a solid read all the way through.
