I didn’t know what to expect given the title and the cover. The Book Club is far better than anything I could’ve imagined. The reader is thrown headfirst into this sprawling world of secrets and deception.
Jason Wilkes waits for his wife to come home from her book club, but she never arrives. He calls Kate’s book pals looking for her. They tell him she left the book club hours ago. Jason keeps hearing Kate calling him from far away. He sees shadows reaching for him. Jason gets the police involved to no avail. So, he does what any loving husband would do, he takes matters into his own hands.
The mystery of Kate’s disappearance begins unraveling at a breakneck speed. The ending punches you in the gut, leaving you gasping for air.
Alan Baxter has concocted an uncanny book. The characters are authentic and the main character, Jason, is a solid lead character. I wanted him to find his wife as much as he did, if not more. I like that this book wasn’t predictable. I honestly had no idea where this book was taking me, but the ride was worthwhile.
