Deep Like the River is a short, yet heavy read.
Sisters, Alie and Carin, go on a canoeing adventure down the Little Clearwater River. The reader quickly realizes that there is more to the story than just an ordinary canoe trip. The reader gets a glimpse inside the deteriorating mind of Alie. She is going insane, trying to get a grip on reality. Alie is trying to get over a horrific incident that happened to her in the past.
This journey brings back memories of Alie’s awful childhood. It is a look at a mother’s loss, regret, and mental deterioration as well. It is a doomed excursion of redemption.
This book is utter madness and I loved it! I have to admit that this is probably one of the best psychological horror books that I have read thus far. The subject matter of this novella is heavy and it will stick with you long after you have finished reading it.
I highly recommend this novella to fans of horror!
