{Book Review} Splatterpunk’s Not Dead edited by Jack Bantry

I’ve never heard of splatterpunk until I came across this title. Just reading this anthology, I think the genre is crazy good! I didn’t know what to expect from this anthology, but it delivered the goods.  Splatterpunk’s Not Dead is filled with eight horror stories. There are a few authors that I recognized in this collection, but there are some authors that I didn’t recognize. I love reading anthologies because you always discover new authors! There is not a particular story that is better than the rest. This anthology is balanced well.

Another Bunch of Flowers by Nathan Robinson is a great start to this anthology. It reminded me of Mad Max and those old school high-speed car chase movies from the 60s and 70s. A man builds an armored vehicle and takes to the open road to kill and injure as many people as possible. This story is a high-octane thrill ride!

High Fashion by Robert Essig is a good read, but from the start, you can tell where the story is heading. A designer goes too far when trying to create his masterpiece. This story is stomach turning!

Beware of the Beverage by Jeff Strand is entertaining! An energy drink is addictive and it makes people stronger. It turns out the energy drink is made out of Martian blood. This is a funny apocalyptic tale!

Eggbeater by Saul Bailey is an odd story. I liked this story, but I don’t think I will be eating in gingerbread men for a while.

Please Subscribe by Adam Cesare is a great story! It is about people being addicted to YouTube. At first, I didn’t know what to expect. The story is told in video uploads, which I thought was cool. That ending was crazy! Cesare does it again!

Abstinence by Shane McKenzie is a story about a couple trying not to have sex. This is a good story, although kind of painful to read. Painful because of the alternative activities they choose in order to stay virgins. It’s quite dirty!

The Androgyne by Brendan Vidito reminds me of Hellraiser a little bit. This story is horrific! This story made me sick to my stomach! There are hooks piercing flesh. There is sex as well. This story reads like a warning to close couples. Good story!

Walter’s Last Canvas by Paul Shrimpton is a great twist on the Dorian Grey tale! Great story!

Splatterpunk’s Not Dead is a solid anthology! I enjoyed reading each story. I also found some new authors to read!

I recommend this anthology to fans of horror!

4/5 stars!
