Thank you to Net Galley for the Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book! Bill Schweigart does not disappoint in this follow-up to THE BEAST OF BARCROFT. I read this book without reading the first book in the series. I did not feel lost or out of place while reading this book because it read like a stand alone novel. This book is about an ancient evil that lures individuals into the woods.

This book is based around Ben McKelvie, Alex Standingcloud, and Lindsay Clark. They go to inspect this ancient evil in Wisconsin. A town gets burned and destroyed! What’s not to like about a book that consists of ancient evil, shapeshifting creatures that want to feast on humans? I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes horror/suspense! The characters were well developed and easily relatable. This book was fun and well paced with the reveals placed perfectly throughout the book. The author does a great job of keeping the reader’s interest. This one should be read with the lights on. Oh yeah…I’m not going to Wisconsin anytime soon.

4/5 stars!
